I (Vicki Skinner - aka "THE Sarong Goddess") created this blog in 2007 to share DETAILED Finds•Lists•Info•Events•Experiences to help bring more EASE to people living in, visiting or thinking of moving to Costa Rica since DETAILS are NOT easy to find!
I’m NOT an expert (an "expert" 2 ME knows 101%-NOT me). I believe in sharin info•helping where I can! And with over 2,200 entries, so some things might be out of date, so if you find old info PLEASE help each other by getting the updated info & sharing it with me to revise. At least you have some basic info to get you started.

UPDATED MARCH 18, 2014 - NOT GOOD - BAN on Sports Hunting • Zoos & Circuses with Animals in Costa Rica

Alas, this law was struck down because the powers that be screwed up and did not give notification they would NOT renew the lease in a timely manner.  Ahhhh - life in Costa Rica!!!:

Did you now that in 2002, Costa Rica banned Circuses with wild animals??

And that Costa Rica is the FIRST country in the Continent to PROHIBIT Sports Hunting  - news.co.cr/hunting-for-sport-outlawed-in-costa-rica/18707 (punishable with a fine of up to 1,800,000 colones ($3600)?

Sports fishing and hunting for subsistence/to sustain one's self/food or to control species is STILL legal.

Costa Rica is also intending on CLOSING ALL it's government run/owned Zoo's and release them into the wild or sent to rescue centers and they plan on turning the Simon Bolivar Zoo in central San Jose into a botanical park.
