I (Vicki Skinner - aka "THE Sarong Goddess") created this blog in 2007 to share DETAILED Finds•Lists•Info•Events•Experiences to help bring more EASE to people living in, visiting or thinking of moving to Costa Rica since DETAILS are NOT easy to find!
I’m NOT an expert (an "expert" 2 ME knows 101%-NOT me). I believe in sharin info•helping where I can! And with over 2,200 entries, so some things might be out of date, so if you find old info PLEASE help each other by getting the updated info & sharing it with me to revise. At least you have some basic info to get you started.

VOLUNTEER NEEDS for Gail Nystrom's Costa Rica Humanitarian Foundation



I consider Gail Nystrom with the Costa Rica Humanitarian Foundation http://CRHF.org - to be “Ms Volunteer” Costa Rica!  For MANY years she’s been helping people THROUGHOUT Costa Rica – starting with her days in her youth in the Peace Corp!

She can REALLY use your help now!!  

Below is a list of some of the summer programs they have going on in La Carpio (some of the poorest people in Costa Rica) for you to consider helping out in whatever way you can!!


VOLUNTEER NEEDS FOR SUMMER IN LA CARPIO

LA CARPIO LIMPIO  -  Help clean up the streets, pick up the garbage, paint the front of houses.

LA CARPIO VERDE  -  Each house will get 4 plants in a bottle - 1 edible, 1 herbal, 1 butterfly attracter and 1 beautiful plant.

LA CARPIO SANO  -  We will package and give out shampoo, soaps, combs, wash clothes, toothpaste, toothbrushes and whatever other hygiene items people are willing and able to donate.

LA CARPIO FELIZ  -  Summer camps, sports programs, music presentations theater productions, dance classes...as many street theater activities as we can come up with.


HOW YOU CAN HELP?

Come out and donate your time/help out.  Collect the items/tools/equipment that are needed.  Donate money to Gail towards these programs.
She ALWAYS has many on-going needs - everything from:

Shoes (ALL sizes)
Socks
Rain Gear  -  Especially this time of year (especially the yellow rain suits that you can often find pretty cheap at Pequeño Mundo or rain boots/galoshes and umbrellas!!)
Under Garments  -  Especially bras
Basic FOOD staples  -  Rice, beans, oil, salt, peanut butter, Salsa Lazano+
Furniture/Household  -  Toaster Ovens, Twin Beds/Frame, Bedding/Pillows,
Sports Equipment  -  Soccer things - balls, pads, uniforms
Medicine/Medical Equipment  -  Do you have some bottles of meds you never finished?  ESPECIALLY needed meds for colds, headaches!  Even Holistic things.  Medical Equipment you no longer need (crutches, wheel chairs, braces)
And MORE!!!!!!
